# Bayfancy Residence completes its foundation piles: more than 350, driven 12 to 15 metres deep

> Construction of Bayfancy Residence began on 1 December 2024. Within four weeks, more than 350 foundation piles had been driven 12 to 15 metres into the ground, three days ahead of plan, and steel sheet piling for the basement followed.

Work on Bayfancy Residence began on **1 December 2024**, and its first task was the one buyers never see: the foundation.

## The piles

Bayfancy chose a **pile foundation** after studying the ground. It drove **more than 350 piles**, each **12 to 15 metres** deep, so that the weight of the building rests on the firmer layers below rather than on surface soil.

That matters on reclaimed land. Deep piles spread the load and limit the slow settling and tilting that can show up years after a building is finished. The method is standard for high-rise buildings in coastal cities from Singapore to Hong Kong.

During the month HDC, which manages Hulhumalé's land, briefed the developer on health and safety for the site.

## Ahead of plan

The piling finished on **27 December 2024**, three days before the planned date of 30 December. Two days later, on **29 December**, steel sheet piling went in around the site and excavation of the basement began.

## What came next

Over the following weeks the team cut the piles down to level, poured concrete and waterproofed the base of the basement. That set up the basement slab, the last step below ground.
