# A day at home in Fitron Residences

> A gym on the roof at dawn, a garden between the towers for the children after school, shops in the building, and an infinity pool over the lagoons to end the day. How a household lives at Fitron.

Fitron Residences was designed so that much of a household's day can happen inside the compound: exercise and a swim on the roof, a garden and a playground between the two towers, shops and cafés on the retail floors, a lounge for when friends come round. This is how an ordinary day there runs, drawn from the developer's brief and the homes Binga has listed.

## Morning on the roof

The gym is on the roof. It is fully equipped, with treadmills, cross trainers, stationary bikes and weight and strength machines, and there is floor space for a yoga mat or an aerobics class. Exercising at the top of a building is a different start to the day from exercising under strip lights in a basement.

Back downstairs, breakfast is in a home with room to spare. The listings Binga has handled are plans with an extra room: a 2+1 on the top floor, and a fully furnished 3+1 with four bathrooms and an ocean view. That extra room is the study for whoever is working from home today, or the room a helper uses in a larger household.

## The afternoon, for families

Fitron is two towers, and the structure joining them is a garden. The compound also includes an open playground, so when school finishes the children have somewhere to go that is not the street and not a screen. It is part of the premises rather than a public park across a road.

For errands, the building has its own retail floors, which the developer describes as a small shopping arcade of shops, cafés and service counters run by private businesses. The idea is that the day's small needs can be met without leaving the building. Which businesses are open at any given time changes; the concierge will tell you what is trading when you view.

## Evening

The best hour at Fitron is late afternoon on the roof. The pool has an infinity edge, and the developer describes its edge meeting the view of the surrounding lagoons. It is where the day is meant to end: a swim, a chair by the water, the light going.

When friends come over there is the general lounge and the recreation hall, the shared rooms the brief sets aside for residents and their guests, and for the community gatherings the developer hopes the building will host. A birthday that would not fit in a flat fits there.

Fitron is in Hulhumalé, the planned island across the bridge from Malé. The building's brief talks about considerate neighbourliness, and the design, with its shared garden and rooms on the roof, gives neighbours places to meet.

It suits a family with young children, a couple who want a gym and a pool in the building and a room for a home office, and a professional placed in Hulhumalé who would rather come home to a rooftop than a car park.
