# Living at Opal Residences

> Open-plan rooms that stay bright, a balcony that is a room, a garage bay for the car and a generator that keeps the lights on. A week in Apollo's newer towers.

Opal was designed by people who had already built one twin tower in Hulhumalé and listened to who moved in. The result is a building where the daily frictions have been removed one by one.

## The rooms

Living, dining and kitchen are one open room with floor-to-ceiling glass, so the daylight reaches the back wall and the air moves through. The balconies are large enough to be the second living room, with the cityscape on one side and the sea horizon on the other. In the corner unit Binga let, the wood-slat panelling and ambient lighting turned it into the kind of home that photographs itself.

## The car

Optional garage parking. In Hulhumalé, where a car bay is the scarcest amenity, this decides the building for many tenants.

## The power

A backup generator. Outages happen; here they last as long as it takes the generator to start.

## The rest

A resident-only gym and a private pool at podium level; a reception lobby with high-speed lifts; 24/7 manned security with CCTV; systematic waste disposal. Phase 1's beach, Central Park, the schools and Tree Top Hospital are a few minutes away; Malé is across the bridge.

## Who lives here

Professionals and growing families, in the developer's words, and, on Binga's desk, corporate placements who take the furnished corners in dollars and local families who take the rufiyaa units. Both bands are active, as at Crystal.
