A day at home at K-Park Residence

The park before breakfast, a daycare drop-off in the building, a supermarket downstairs and the pool in the evening. How a day might run at K-Park Residence in Hulhumalé, based on what the building offers.

K-Park Residence

A building next to a park, with a daycare, a supermarket and a café among its facilities, is designed for a particular kind of day. This is how that day might run at K-Park Residence, drawn from what the developer lists. Binga has not yet let a home here, so we describe the building's offer rather than a tenant's account.

Morning

The day starts outside. The catalogue places K-Park next to Central Park, so the morning walk, run or pram circuit begins at the door. Hulhumalé is a planned island with wider streets and parks, and this is the part of it where that planning is most visible.

For families with small children, the mornings may be simplest of all. The catalogue description lists a daycare among the building's features. A drop-off that does not involve a road, a car or a detour is the kind of detail that changes a working parent's week. Ask the concierge to confirm the daycare's operator, hours and fees before you rely on it; the desk has not verified them.

Daytime

K-Park is a mixed-use building, and the facilities list includes a café and a supermarket. The practical effect is that the daily shop and the mid-morning coffee need not leave the building. For someone who works from home, the café is a change of scene with no commute; for a household without a car, the supermarket is the single most useful thing a building can have downstairs.

Inside the flat, the 2+1 and 3+1 layouts, at 1,200 to 1,500 square feet, leave room for a home office in the extra room, rather than a laptop on the dining table.

Afternoon

The children's play area and the garden cover the hours after school or daycare. The pool is for the older ones. Parents will be glad of 24/7 security while children move between the flat and the shared spaces.

Evening

Evenings are for the pool, the gym or a second walk in the park as the heat drops. Guests arriving for dinner can use the visitor parking rather than looking for a space on the street, and the lobby gives them somewhere to be met. At the end of the night, the garbage chute means the rubbish goes down the corridor, not down the stairs.

Getting further

Malé is fifteen to twenty-five minutes by road from Hulhumalé, according to Binga's neighbourhood guide, and the building has residents' parking. The desk does not publish walking times to schools, hospitals or the ferry until the concierge team has checked them from this address.

Who it suits

The building's offer points clearly at families with young children: park, daycare, play area, garden and a supermarket, all within a few minutes. It also suits professionals who work partly from home and want a café and a gym without leaving the building. A tenant who wants the beach outside the window, or the busy streets of Malé, should look elsewhere, and the concierge will say so.
