What makes Raincrest beautiful to come home to

Two fourteen-storey towers on Reethigas Magu, a swimming pool on the fourteenth floor between them, terrace gardens on the second floor and corner homes with three and five balconies. The design of Raincrest Residence, as a tenant finds it.

Raincrest Residence

Raincrest Residence is two fourteen-storey towers on Reethigas Magu in Hulhumalé, with 136 apartments between them and a swimming pool lifted to the top floor, in the gap between the towers. It is a building that puts its best room in the sky and gives most of its homes more than one balcony. This is what a tenant notices first, and what keeps them there.

Two towers and the space between them

The developer describes Raincrest as a mixed-use condominium facing three main roads and a pedestrian link, and makes the case that this orientation gives the apartments privacy and unobstructed views. In practice it means the towers are not pressed up against a neighbour on every side. There is air around them, and the light that comes with it.

The towers stand as a pair, and the most considered decision in the design is what connects them. The main swimming pool sits on the fourteenth floor, between the two blocks. The catalogue describes panoramic views of the ocean and of Hulhumalé City from the deck, and a position chosen to keep the pool private and to keep its noise away from the homes below. A pool at street level is a facility. A pool on the roof, framed by two towers with the sea beyond, is the reason people remember a viewing.

Homes that open outwards

Raincrest's apartments run from one-bedroom homes up to 3+1 layouts, and the listings Binga has handled here keep returning to the same theme: balconies, corners and light.

A 2+1 corner home let through Binga in June was described with three private balconies and partial sea views, a breezy plan with a laundry room and a helper's suite. The four-bedroom corner unit on the ninth floor now listed through Binga has five balconies and looks over Central Park. A fully furnished 3+1 on the eleventh floor, let earlier this year, was marketed on its views of the sunrise and of Central Park. Even the one-bedroom studio let in the spring was described as a corner home with good natural light and ventilation.

That is the pattern worth understanding. In a Hulhumalé tower the difference between a flat that feels close and one that feels open is usually the number of outside walls and what they face. At Raincrest a good share of the homes Binga has seen are corners, and the corners are where the building is at its most generous.

Gardens on the second floor, pools at the top

Two features sit at either end of the towers. On the second floor, the developer's brief gives apartments large private terrace gardens: outdoor space at a height where plants make sense and the street is close enough to feel part of the day. At the top, four duplex penthouses each come with a private plunge pool, alongside the shared pool deck.

Between them, the rest of the building is quieter in its intentions: a fully equipped gym, a convention hall, a children's play area and ample parking, according to the catalogue. None of that is unusual on its own. Together with the rooftop pool and the balconies, it adds up to a tower that has thought about where people will actually spend their time outside their own front door.

Why it matters to a tenant

Beauty in a rented home is mostly about the hours you do not plan: the light across the living room at seven, the balcony where the laundry dries and the coffee gets drunk, the swim you take because the pool is a lift ride away rather than a drive. Raincrest's design puts those hours within easy reach. The fully furnished 3+1 now listed through Binga and the ninth-floor corner home are the two places to see it for yourself this month.
