Bayfancy reaches its 11th floor ten days ahead of plan and targets handover in late 2026

From the ground floor in late March to the eleventh in mid-July, Bayfancy Residence went up at close to a floor a week.

The slabs

• 2nd floor: 13 April 2025, with external scaffolding going up.
• 3rd floor: 29 April.
• 4th floor: 7 May.
• 5th floor: 13 May.
• 6th floor: 23 May.
• 7th floor: 31 May.
• 8th floor: 10 June.
• 9th floor: 19 June.
• 10th floor: 29 June.
• 11th floor: 12 July.

Behind the frame, other trades had already started. Internal masonry began on the ground floor on 23 May, and electrical and plumbing installation began in June.

What the developer said

In an interview published on 15 July, sales director Gehan Jayawardena said the project was ten days ahead of schedule, 210 days after piling began. He put the structural work at close to 60 per cent complete. His targets were:

• three to four floors a month;
• the whole frame by September 2025;
• interior fit-out from 1 October 2025;
• completion and handover between September and December 2026.

Asked whether Bayfancy was expensive, he argued that its prices matched what it was delivering.

How to read it

A floor a week is fast for a high-rise in the Maldives, where most materials arrive by ship. The schedule he set out became the yardstick for the rest of the build. The handover window in particular, September to December 2026, was later narrowed to 31 December 2026 and then moved to 30 June 2027.
